Arles Image Web Page Creator 8 released

The Arles 8 is now available. It contains many changes such as an collapsible thumbnail info panel, support for Lightbox style galleries and animations in the thumbnail and image viewer.

Thumbnail info

The new thumbnail info feature allows you show image information alongside the thumbnails. Select Ctrl+T to switch it on or off. Any image information like height, file size, EXIF and IPTC field can be shown beside your images.

Support for RAW images and CYMK color spaces

Due to a new graphics engine many more image formats are supported, like:

Canon raw CRW, CR2
Nikon raw, NEF
Adobe DNG
Support for JPEGS and TIFFs with YCbCr, CMYK, YCbCrK color models.
JPEG2000
DICOM medical images
many others formats.

Lightbox gallery style

Lightbox is a popular gallery style to show the images in a transparent overlay layer instead of a separate page. Arles implements Slimbox which is an improved version of the Lightbox style. Click the screenshot below for an example gallery.

To use the Slimbox gallery style:

In the Web Page Creator select the Index Page tab.
Set the Gallery style to Slimbox.
Recreate your gallery by clicking the All or HTML button in the Web Page Creator window.

Default sorting

A new default images sort option has been added to the Image Explorer Options window. If all your images are sorted on the EXIF Datetime field then you can now tell Arles - in the Image Explorer Options window - to use that as a default for all folders. You will no longer have to set it for all folders separately.

Official 8.0 release

New Arles 8 registration code required.
No more explicit warning is given if transparent PNG images are selected as output, because Internet Explorer 6 market share is now below Internet Explorer 7. The help file still explains that transparent PNG images do not look good in IE6.
Fixed: An "Cannot create folder" error was shown if gallery was generated with the Lightbox style and with a custom Arles Images location.

New automatic bug report tool added. When an error occurs you will have the option to email the bug report to info@digitaldutch.com.
Fixed: Arles Image Explorer: Drag and drop of an folder on a subfolder was not forbidden as it should have been.
Fixed: Arles Image Explorer: An access violation sometimes occured when moving images outside the Arles Image Explorer.
Fixed: Arles Image Explorer: Checkboxes were visible in the Images-only view when they should only be visible if the image is selected or Ctrl is pressed.
Arles Image Explorer: Cropping rectangles are now also visible in the Images-only view.
Fixed: Access violations could sometimes occur due to an unsafe string find function being used.
Fixed: Some Nokia E51 images caused a stack overflow when reading EXIF data from the picture.
Icons for movies are now shown centered instead of in the left corner. I had to do this due to some internal thumbnail drawing changes.

beta 19

File size can now be used for Thumbnail Info texts.
Updated image loading/saving library.
Fixed memory leaks in loading RAW files.
"Automatically close if finished without warnings" option in the progress window. It was already in the Web Page Creator options window but that was harder to find.
Fixed: An "Unable to create images folder" error was shown if the images path was set to user defined.
Fixed: The Thumbnail link target option was not visible since beta 2.

New "Auto update" function. In the Arles Image Explorer select "Check for Update" to see if a new version is available.
Image Explorer: Tweaked selected thumbnail background colors.
Fixed: Image Explorer: Text for folders was sometimes unreadable due to bad background colors.

Image Explorer: Thumbnail view now shows selected thumbnails in a blue gradient instead of gray.

Fixed: Access violations were sometimes shown when creating large galleries on multi-core processors.
New "Close progress window when finished without warnings" in Web Page Creator Options window.
Web Page Creator progress window now shows Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) when generating a gallery.
Web Page Creator progress window now shows gallery duration and finish time when it's done. But only if "Close progress window when finished without warnings" is switched on in the Web Page Creator options window.
Fixed: Thumbnail Info setting was not remembered between sessions.

Image Explorer: Showing and hiding Image Info text is now animated.
Image Explorer: "Image Only" thumbnail layout now shows the file name, index and checkbox also when the file is selected.
Fixed: EXIF information was not properly read if the shutterspeed contained an illegal value.
Fixed: EXIF info of the last file in the grid was shown instead of the focused one when the EXIF Info link was clicked.
Fixed: A integer overflow sometimes occured when starting Arles in the latest beta versions

Image Explorer: The "Thumbnail Info Text" contents is now editable. Select the Layout button > Edit Thumbnail Info to edit it.
Image Explorer: EXIF and IPTC info can now be added to the "Thumbnail Info Text".
Web Page Creator > Multi-folder processing: Show Results button renamed Show to be consistent with the main window.
Fixed: Web Page Creator > Multi-folder processing: The Show button did not work properly in the previous betas.
Fixed: Crop rectangles were no longer shown in the thumbnail view.
Fixed: Errors were sometimes shown when creating a gallery.
Fixed: Image titles sometimes showed strange characters which weren't in the title.

Image Explorer: Default thumbnail view look changed.
Image Explorer: "Image Only" thumbnail layout now shows the file name, index and checkbox when:
- the image is selected OR
- holding the Ctrl Key.
Fixed: The preview image was sometimes unnecessarily loaded multiple times.
Fixed: In the previous betas the Image Explorer sometimes showed an error when the preview thumbnail was visible.
Fixed: autoshow the results did not work if only image pages were generated.
Fixed: The folder default image field could be cleared from the database when installing a new Arles version or when doing a database clean if the default image was the only item set for that folder.

Image Explorer: For Internet link files (*.url): If the image info Link field is empty it is now automatically set to the link in the file.

Image Explorer: The Sort boxes on the Folder Info panel now have a modern Windows style.
Image Explorer Options window: New default Folders Sort option. This is the sorting that will be used for folders for which you did not specify a subfolder sort type.
Image Explorer: All popup menus now have the same modern Windows style.
Fixed: Web Page Creator: Fixed wrong tab name on Overwrite dialog.

Fixed: Image Explorer: An DBISAM error was sometimes raised when setting titles.
Fixed: Image Explorer: When doing Select All in the grid view the image info panel was not updated in the previous beta.

Image Viewer: Holding Ctrl while using the mouse wheel now zooms slowly.

Fixed bug in previous betas: A memory leak caused an exception when viewing images.

Arles Image Explorer: Improved smooth-scroll effect in thumbnail viewer.
Arles Image Explorer: Smarter thumbnail scrolling: When scrolling an image will now always be aligned at the top of the page making it fully visible.
Arles Image Explorer: Added animation when zooming in the image viewer.
Arles Image Explorer: Reversed the way the mouse scroll wheel works to zoom in and out. It now behaves more like other applications.
Fixed: Command line processing was partly broken in the previous beta.
Fixed: Arles Image Web Page Creator: Links from thumbnails to movies were sometimes broken.

Arles Image Explorer: New smooth scrolling effect added to thumbnail viewer.

New graphics engine which means support for many other file formats like:
- Support for RAW image formats like Canon CRW, Nikon NEF, DNG and others.

Arles Image Explorer: New command line option: One can now start the Arles Image Explorer in a certain folder by adding the folder. E.g.
Open "C:\images folder" in the Arles Image Explorer:
"C:\Program Files\Digital Dutch\Arles Image Web Page Creator\arles.exe" "C:\Images".
Arles Image Explorer > Options: Removed "High quality thumbnails" option. Thumbnails are now always high quality.

Fixed: Arles Image Explorer > Data Mover: Help button did not work and help file contained no info on the Data Mover.
Fixed: Web Page Creator: Popup style options window: Close button did not work.
Fixed: Web Page Creator: Popup style options window: Tab order was incorrect.
Fixed: Arles Image Explorer > Image viewer: The Mouse cursor sometimes was hidden when the popup menu was open.

Web Page Creator: Added new Slimbox (Improved lightbox) gallery style. To select the style: In the Web Page Creator on the Index Page tab, set the gallery style to "Slimbox".
Web Page Creator > Index Page tab: The gallery style box now only contains "Standard" and "Index Frame" options. The Frame position setting (Left, Right, Top, Bottom) has been moved to the Frames Gallery Style Options window.
Web Page Creator > Index Page tab: When selecting "Standard" as style the thumbnail column count is automatically reset to 4 if it was 1 or larger than 10. (The Frames style generally sets the column count to 1 or 999).
Web Page Creator: Popup gallery style now also works when the thumbnails link is set to "original images" or "Image pages with original images".
